Gogol Bordello

The South African introduced me to the band Gogol Bordello tonight, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. This is why I like the South African. They are actually a very accomplished band, so maybe I should have known about them before tonight. Whatever. I’ve never been very knowledgeable about anything.

They are Eastern European and remind me of my vagabond days. They are fun and fast paced with kick-ass accordion rifts. I’ve only heard the four songs they have on their MySpace page, but that’s enough for me to rock out to until I can buy their CD at a show.

When I was in Bucharest last year there was a gypsy band playing on the street, and this old woman pulled me from the street and made me dance with her. I’m a terrible dancer and all of the men pointed and laughed at me. I bought a CD because they were fun and played the accordion really well. I love accordions. Then a dog bit my boot on the way home. The next day I left Bucharest and I haven’t been back since.

When I got home three months later I realized the CD was actually by Paula Abdul. Damn gypsies!

They play at the 9:30 Club on July 18. Maybe LowPro will want to come, and then I can punch him in the face when I am dancing. I’ll blame it on the music instead of my incredible lack of rhythm.

I give Gogol Bordello a score of 96,998 out of a possible 100,000.
